Safety:

Clove essential oil contains high levels of eugenol. This can be strongly irritating to skin and mucous membranes and may cause long-term or permanent injury (dermatitis or sensitization). We recommend diluting clove to 0.5% before topical applications (1 drop in 10ml of carrier). Please do not use undiluted on the skin!

Please exercise caution when inhaling or diffusing clove essential oil. Intense respiratory exposure may cause irritation to the lungs and respiratory tract.

Clove essential oil may interact with certain medications including anticoagulants, SSRIs and MAO inhibitors. Clove is also contraindicated for those with liver disorders, blood clotting disorders or who are preparing for surgery. If these apply to you, enjoy clove through limited exposure via diffuser or inhaler tube. Please avoid topical use.

Do not use clove essential oil in the bath. This is an extremely sensitizing oil.

Clove essential oil is not recommended for topical use with children under 12. Not for aromatic use on children under 5. For diffusion with children present, please limit exposure to 5-10 minutes. Remember, if your child expresses discomfort with clove or any oil, please discontinue use immediately. They are informing you that this is not a good choice for them.
