Cape Chamomile Eriocephalus punctulatus
Aromatic description: Tart and sweet like fresh apples and berries, accompanied by subtle floral and herbaceous undertones.
Description
Cape chamomile embodies the enthusiastic and carefree nature of childhood. It dazzles with a sweet aroma that quickly pulls one away to the sun-drenched slopes of South Africa. This potent little oil is steam distilled from the small white flowers of the cape snow bush; a short evergreen shrub endemic to South Africa and Namibia. Thriving in the arid climate, cape snow bush is richly fragrant, oftentimes enticing the local livestock to dine upon it. Its sweet aroma not only calls the attention of hungry herbivores, but has divulged its potential as a medicinal herb. The leaves and flowers are gathered and used for a handful of purposes; from managing infections, balancing the nervous system and providing dermatological remedies.
The properties of cape chamomile essential oil reflect the use of the dried herb. With a chemical profile rich in esters, cape chamomile has an affinity to the nervous system and the skin. It can quickly soothe an agitated mind, ease stress related tension and help to relieve itchy and irritated skin. This gentle oil is an excellent choice for helping to tame tantrums and restlessness in young children. When diffused, it creates an uplifting and playful environment that helps to manage even the crankiest attitude.

Restlessness and Difficulty Sleeping: Children are often restless at bedtime. Their energy and curiosity provoke them to continue playing and exploring, ignoring their body's signals for rest. A bedtime massage on achy legs or a nighttime diffuser blend with cape chamomile can help children relax and transition their busy bodies to preparing for sleep. This also applies to frazzled parents! **Please see safety note
Itching and Irritated Skin: Cape chamomile offers relief to dermal discomfort related to allergies, dryness, bug bites and sunburns. Applying a dilution of 3 drops of cape chamomile with 1tsp of fractionated coconut oil may offer quick relief for skin irritation.

Inner Child Work: Relating to our inner child is deeply personal and often painful. These parts of ourselves contain ancient wounds that have shaped our mindset and behaviors our entire lives. The idea of working with our inner child can be very difficult to follow through with.
If your healing journey has led you to this point, cape chamomile is extremely supportive. Its sweet and joyful aroma facilitates us to connect with our inner child. It influences us to create a place of safety for these parts, so we may listen without judgment to what our inner child needs to share.
